Streets Of Edenclick on title to hear full song
Was a time when I was just a kid and thought I’d live forever,
and the sun shone in my grandma’s yard and the days went on forever;
there were fruits to pick and games to play and all around was freedom,
and I laughed and ran and kicked a ball around the streets of Eden.
Ah, but then I grew and days sped past, and I left my childhood grieving,
and I learned of death and love and hope, and of trust and those deceiving;
there were things swept under carpets and naïve folks all believing
that all was bright and beautiful, as I walked the streets of Eden.
Now I’m a man who watches politicians say they care,
and the lying corporations who pollute the sea and air;
Mother Earth’s in an asylum now, for death’s release she’s pleading,
and I hear her crying ‘Help me!’ as I walk the streets of Eden.
And another crazy war concerning gold or God has started,
and the young men go and fight and die for causes needing martyrs;
and the TV newsmen send reports from shattered war zones bleeding,
and I smell the fires burning as I walk the streets of Eden.
And the dark clouds keep on rolling ever onwards overhead,
there’s a demon wind that’s blowing full of hatred and of dread;
there’s thunder in the heavens and some books that no one’s reading,
and I look over my shoulder as I walk the streets of Eden.
